In memories like normal flora!

December 8, 2007

I didn’t like his style.

Microbiology tutorial class from 12:30PM to ‘As-long-as-Dr. Joy wishes’ (till 3:30PM on ‘lucky-days’, up to even 5:00PM on usual days) – once a week, extended to 2/3 days per week when ‘Dr. Joy wishes’ – not something ‘my type’ would love to attend…

Yet, I had to.. He made us do so.

But, now that we’re at the end of our curriculum, MB is one of my favorites…

This was what Dr. Joy awarded me on our last MB class, for ‘overall good performance’ throughout the course.

I remember K60 students giving a gift-card to Dr.Joy, in which they wrote:

You’ll remain in our memories like normal flora

Indeed…

A friend of mine (herself a student of Dr. Joy) – Sifat Zerin Khan Disha mailed me this photograph today, taken on the 8th of Dec, 2007 – our (2nd) last official MB class. The subject of her mail was “The difference…”

Attitude

If you are a medical student, here’s something I found really encouraging and would like to share with you.

Don’t eat us !

February 7, 2006

While browsing, I came through ; this story in BBC which says, ‘The veterinary drug blamed for killing South Asia’s vultures has been banned by the Indian government

The drug blamed here is ‘livestock painkiller diclofenac – consumed by vultures when they eat a carcass’. They say -

The birds succumb to kidney failure and visceral gout when they eat a dead animal that has been treated with diclofenac, an anti-inflammatory drug.

This raised my eyebrow, let me tell you why.Just a few days back, I was prescribed by a registered physician to take Ultrafen(R) Plus for dental pain… as I had to wait for a day before consulting the dental surgeon due to my exams. Now, this “Ultrafen(R) Plus” is a NSAID & analgesic drug which is combination product containing Diclofenac Sodium Salt and Misoprostol. Diclofenac salt is present in few other simiar painkillers as well.

Did you get the point ? I’ve not yet started reading Pharmacology, and am therefore very much confused whether these 2 are the same or not… But if it is so, how come we are taking drugs that are banned even for livestock ?

Based upon my latest agenda of taking things positively, I’m considering this a good sign… At least we’re not fit anymore even as vulture diets… (If only the poor vultures knew..)

1st Professional Exam

January 26, 2006

I’m appearing in my 1st professional Exam right now.

And I can’t stop thinking how great a guy this “Murphy” was !
He wasn’t anything near a DOC – but who cares for that after hearing his laws :

* Nothing is as easy as it looks.
* Everything takes longer than you think.
* If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.
* Nature always sides with the hidden flaw.
* Whenever you set out to do something, something else must be done first.
* Every solution breeds new problems.

My Conclusion :
It’s hard to do the easy things the easy way . . .
and keep on doing them easily…
